Field of Dreams: 25th anniversary means more visitors

DYERSVILLE (KWWL) -

Each year the Field of Dreams brings thousands of people from all over the world to the Eastern Iowa area. Field of Dreams owner, Denise Stillman, said the Field of Dreams has seen even more visitors this year due to the 25th anniversary of the movie.

"Our Loras College interns have done physical counts on the property and we've already had about 75,000 people, and we've got three months yet to go (before the end of the season)," said Stillman.

Stillman said that's at least a 25% or more increase from the previous year's attendance. She credits the film's 25th anniversary celebration in June and Ghost Players Sunday to the spark in visitors.

"We've sparked a resurgence in what people see and what they know that we can do here. I think Kevin Costner's appearance certainly helped people feel like 'Gosh, I should get there. I didn't know it still existed'," said Stillman.

Bill Baiker travels from Chicago every year with family to the Field of Dreams. He said it's a place where he comes to play baseball all day long and escape.

"It's just the type of place where you leave it all behind," said Baiker.

Baiker said it's also a great place to meet people from all over the world.

"It's the people you meet. The people from all over the country. It's just amazing. There are no words to describe it," Baiker said.

Stillman said she expects attendance to continue to climb for years to come.

The Field of Dreams movie site will close for the season in November.
