U of I Hawkeyes host UNI Panthers at Kinnick Saturday

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The threat of rain didn't stop dedicated University of Iowa fans from packing the Kinnick Stadium parking lot early Saturday for the opening season kickoff.

Hundreds of people began tailgating as early as 4 a.m. Saturday. In typical fashion, fans set up tents, listened to music, sipped beverages and played in bean bag tosses.

There were splashes of purple and gold among the sea of black and gold, representing both Hawkeye and Panther fans.

Kickoff is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes and UNI Panthers meet on the field annually, however, the last time UNI beat U of I was back in 1898.
