WATERLOO (KWWL) -

One of the great benefits of the new 4A district formation is that 3A schools now play 4A teams. Tonight, Waterloo West and Waverly-Shell Rock meet on the gridiron for the first time in anyone's memory.

Mark Hubbard leads his Go-Hawks into Memorial stadium to take on the Wahawks -- and Waterloo West comes out on fire.

On the their first drive the Wahawks find the endzone. Quarterback Devon Moore shows off his great athleticism, outrunning everyone to the pilon for six.

The young sophomore is excited and so is his dad, Lonnie Moore the Wahawks head coach. West High takes a 7-0 lead.

But the game turns on two plays in the first quarter. First, the Go-Hawks Theo Talamantez blocks this West High punt for a safety.

And then, on the ensuing kick, Ryan Sprain of Waverly-Shell Rock left a field full of sprained ankles as he gets loose and sails 70 yards for the touchdown to give the Go-Hawks an 8-7 lead.

Waverly-Shell rock found the endzone again before the half. Riley Steckleberg pounds it in from 6 yards out to make it 15-7 Waverly-Shell Rock.

The Go-Hawks whip the Wahawks 31-13.
