Touching Tribute: Western Dubuque's opponent wearing Bobcat Strong shirts

Posted: Updated:

It's a Bobcat Strong show of support from a competing school.

Thursday night, the girls on the Dubuque Hempstead freshman volleyball team came to their game against Western Dubuque wearing Bobcat Strong t-shirts. Those shirts were made in honor of four teens who were killed in a crash about a month ago. All four boys would've been freshmen at Western Dubuque this year.

Brian Kuhle, the activities director and assistant principal at Hempstead High School says one of the volleyball coaches, Loren Hammerand, asked if they could do something to support Western Dubuque. Kuhle said he suggested the girls wear Bobcat Strong shirts during warm-ups. Kuhle said the girls had their money ready for the t-shirt order the very next day.  "It means a lot to me personally because I taught English and was the head football coach at Western Dubuque for the last four years before I took the AD job here at Hempstead," said Kuhle.

He said he was glad to see coaches and students show their support for a great school like Western Dubuque.
