Overnight grief camp in Coggon helps children cope with death

COGGON (KWWL) -

UnityPoint Hospice is offering a free, overnight grief camp for children and teens experiencing the death of a loved one.

Organizers say Camp Embracing Memories is designed to help children ages seven to 16 effectively cope with death in a safe, accepting environment.

Trained Hospice staff and volunteers provide education and support, while still enabling campers to feel connected to their loved one who died.

Cedar Memorial donated $10,000 to help fund the camp and make it free of charge to all attendees.

The overnight camp will start at 10 a.m. Sept. 20 and end Sept. 21 at 11 a.m.

It will be located at YMCA Camp Wapsie, located in Coggon.
