Power outage: Students at 2 Waterloo schools sent home early

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A power outage in Waterloo forced many students to be sent home Thursday morning.

Students at Lou Henry Elementary and Hoover Middle schools were dismissed at 9 a.m. after the power went out around 8 a.m.

MidAmerican Energy says equipment failed underground, which caused the outage.

Power was restored around 9:30 a.m.

Officials with Waterloo Schools said they had to make a decision about what to do, and they say they were told that power would be restored by 10 a.m. at the earliest -- and even that was no guarantee.
