Klieman ready to lead Bison against Iowa State on Saturday

AMES (KWWL) -

This Saturday's game between North Dakota State and Iowa State is a homecoming of sorts for Waterloo native and new Bison head coach Chris Klieman.

The former Columbus and University of Northern Iowa football star was a head coach at Loras college and served as assistant coach at Northern Iowa, Western Illinois, Kansas, Missouri State and North Dakota State before becoming the head coach of the three-time defending national champion North Dakota State Bison.

Klieman was the defensive coordinator for all three North Dakota State FCS Championships, and he believes the Bison defense will face a stiff challenge against the Mark Mangino-led Cyclone offense on Saturday.

"Well, it's difficult because we don't know exactly what we are going to see," Klieman said. "Maybe you go back in years to what he's doing at Kansas or last year to what he's done at Youngstown -- that's where we are not quite sure.

"That's why we have to hope we have a lot of veteran kids on defense that have seen a lot of offenses over the last three years, and we have to be able to adapt and adjust," he added. "But I know this he has had a lot of tremendous offenses over the years and they put a lot of points on the board and a lot of yards up there, and we will have our hands full trying to slow them down."

North Dakota State will take a 24-game winning streak into the game at Iowa State.

Kick-off is 11 a.m. Saturday morning from Ames.
