Dubuque police dogs win awards at K9 Olympics

The Dubuque Police Department's K9 units took home several awards from the 2014 Vohne Liche Kennels and American Working Dog K9 Olympics in Denver, Indiana.

One hundred and thirty dogs and their handlers participated in the national event, including Special Forces teams with the U.S. Department of Defense.

Only the top three placers in each event won an award.

Dubuque's multi-purpose K9 Brix and handler Corporal Brian Wullweber received first place in the categories of obedience, area search and decoy. The team also won second place in the categories of narcotic warehouse detection, patrol team and overall patrol team.

Single-purpose Bomb Detection K9 Tiffany and handler Officer Paul Avenarius received third place in the "Overall Patrol Team" event.
