WATERLOO (KWWL) -

In Waterloo, over 100 high schoolers dropped out in 2013.

To combat that, the "Reconnect to Graduate" event is seeking volunteers for 3 hours on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 6.

Their goal is to persuade the youth to return to school and complete their education.

Out of almost 170 homes visited last year, 61 students returned to schools and all except 10 have graduated or are still attending.

Volunteers are required to train for one hour on Thursday, Sept. 4,and devote three hours Saturday morning, Sept. 6.

Interested parties apply at the Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley or contact Ellen Vanderloo, 319-433-1920 vanderlooe@waterlooschools.org

The partners for the event include the Waterloo mayor's office, local public safety, Greater Cedar Valley Alliance, Cedar Valley United Way, Courier Communications, KBBG, Panera Bread of Iowa and KWWL.
