Kernels fall at Quad Cities, still clinch playoff berth

DAVENPORT (KWWL) -

The Cedar Rapids Kernels fell 8-6 to the Quad Cities on Sunday with a chance to secure a playoff spot. Despite the loss, the Kernels still picked up a bid after Peoria eliminated themselves from contention with a 4-3 loss at Clinton.

With the game tied 4-4 in the 8th inning, the Kernels looked like they might get it done as Logan Wade knocked an RBI base hit in to right field for the advantage.

However, it quickly went away in the bottom half of the inning. The River Bandits responded with 4 runs fueled by a 3 run blast from J.D. Davis to regain a lead they would not lose.

The Kernels have made the playoffs in each of the first 2 seasons of their affiliation with the Minnesota Twins.
