Freshman Katharine Woodruff's goal in the 106th minute sent the University of Iowa soccer team to a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Northern Iowa on Friday night at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex. It was the season opener for both programs.
The win was the first for UI head coach Dave DiIanni as the head Hawkeye and his first at the Division I level.
Woodruff's strike came off an assist from sophomore Natalie Krygier. It was the first of Woodruff's career. The Hawkeyes outshot the Panthers 24-3 including 10-1 on goal. Panther goalkeeper and former Union star Whitney Blunt played well in a losing effort.
