Police: Cedar Rapids man sold synthetic marijuana from store

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Cedar Rapids man is charged with maintaining a drug-involved premises.

Authorities say Matthew McCauley, 39, sold Schedule I substances out of the Fragrance Hut in Cedar Rapids.

According to the criminal complaint, he told police in March that he opened the business to sell "herbal incense." Police believe the incense actually contained synthetic cannabinoids with THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.

If convicted, McCauley faces up to 20 years in prison and $1 million in fines. He is being held without bond..
