DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

A Dubuque man could spend the rest of his life in federal prison, accused of selling crack cocaine from his candy store.

A federal indictment alleges 35-year-old Dwayne Howard sold the drugs to an undercover officer on four separate occasions in January and February this year.

Three of those exchanges are said to have happened at Howard's candy store, Wayne's Candy, in Dubuque. The candy store is now closed.

Howard is charged with four counts of distributing crack cocaine near a school or playground. A federal trial is scheduled for Oct. 20.

If convicted, Howard faces a mandatory minimum sentence of one year imprisonment without the possibility of parole, and a possible maximum sentence of 160 years' imprisonment, an $8,000,000 fine, $400 in special assessments, and a term of supervised release of at least six years and up to life, following any imprisonment.
