CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Cedar Rapids man is headed to federal prison for illegally having a firearm.

According to Peter Deegan from the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa, 21-year-old Ramius Hardiman pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a felon on May 23. He was sentenced on Wednesday.

At the plea hearing, Hardiman admitted to having a 9mm pistol on May 8, 2013 even though he is prohibited from possessing firearms because of an October 2011 involuntary manslaughter conviction.

Hardiman will spend two years and 10 months in prison and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment. He will also have to serve a three-year term of supervised release after his release from prison.
