UI Hospitals and Clinics offering free skin cancer screenings

Posted: Updated:
KALONA (KWWL) -

Dermatologists from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will be offering a free skin cancer screening Saturday, August 23 in Kalona as part of the 2014 Courage Ride.

Screenings will happen from 6:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the lower level of the Iowa Mennonite School.

The screening is open to the general public and cyclists registered for the Courage Ride.

The Courage Ride is an annual bike ride that honors the life of Seth Bailey, who died from sarcoma in 2003; experts say cyclists are at a higher risk of developing skin cancer because of their long exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
