Fire destroys popular Monticello restaurant

Firefighters from three departments responded to a structure fire in Monticello off of Highway 151 South Saturday afternoon.

The Monticello Fire Department, Cascade and Anamosa were on the scene in the 1400 block of Richland Road around 3 p.m. for a fire reported at Wagon Wheel restaurant.

Witnesses on the scene said the restaurant was a popular place to eat. They also said it was closed at the time of the fire and set to open around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

KWWL talked to the owners daughter at the scene of the fire who said the businesses has been in Monticello for some 32 years. She said at this point she does not believe the family will rebuild.

Fire officials said no one was injured in the fire and the fire is still under investigation.

A fire has damaged a popular Monticello restaurant.  Firefighters from several departments were called to the Wagon Wheel restaurant in Monticello Saturday afternoon.  The restaurant was closed at the time.  We have a crew at the scene working to get more information.

    A gloomy and rainy afternoon didn't stop people from making it out early to the campgrounds Friday. By the afternoon, Scales Pointe Campground and Marina in North Liberty, was full of RVs, tents, and houseboats ready to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend. "We don't worry about the weather.
