'Chicago: The Musical' comes to Englert Theater in Iowa City

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

"Chicago: The Musical" will run for the first time professionally in the Iowa City area this weekend.

Four shows will take place at the Englert Theater in Iowa City Friday through Sunday.

Tickets are available on the Old Capital Opera's website or by calling the Englert Theater box office at 319-688-2653.

The production will feature an orchestra made up of area musicians and conducted by retired University of Iowa professor Dr. Edward Kottick. Directors for "Chicago" are Megan O'Brien and Ken Van Egdon.

The show takes place in the 1920s featuring dancing and musical elements from the flapper era. Set in the Cook County Jail, it features several women convicted of murder working their way through the justice system.
