CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The Iowa Tourette Syndrome Association (ITSA) Support Group will host the first annual Tourette's Family Camp at Camp Tanager in Cedar Rapids starting Saturday.

Families affected by Tourette syndrome will spend the weekend meeting other families, learning about the disorder as well as listen to speakers who have Tourette's.

“It's educational for the parents, and fun for the kids,” said Lisa Zimmerman, chairperson of the ITSA Support Group. “Kids with Tourette's usually feel like they are the only one in the world struggling with this disorder – and camp allows them to get to know other kids who go through the same challenges they do.”

The group meets once a month at different locations across the state, and draws approximately 70 families, teachers, caregivers, and others who are affected by Tourette syndrome.
