Back-to-school safety advice from Cedar Rapids Police

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

As schools prepare to go back into session, the Cedar Rapids Police Department is offering parents and their children some back-to-school safety advice.

Police said students should be cautious when walking to and from school. They advise students to plan a safe walking route, wear reflective clothing so drivers can see them more easily as well as be ready for their school bus to arrive.

Drivers are also advised to be aware of children walking to and from schools and bus stops.

The police department also said parents should talk to their children about strangers. They say children never talk to them, get into their vehicles or take any items from them.

If a child is approached by a stranger, they are advised to find a trusted adult and have them call the police immediately.
