DES MOINES (KWWL) -

A naked man was pulled from the Des Moines River Wednesday afternoon in downtown Des Moines.

Witnesses first spotted the man near the Cedar Street dam around 12:10 p.m.

When emergency crews arrived, they threw a rope into the river and told the man to hold on to the tether. A rescue boat was brought in, and crews pulled the man to safety.

Investigators say the man was conscious and alert when he was taken to the hospital.

Police say it's still not clear why the man was naked in the river or if drugs or alcohol were involved.
