Oelwein man in jail after hitting man in face with baseball bat

One man was sent to the hospital on Tuesday after being hit in the face with a baseball bat, according to officials.

Fayette County Sheriff's deputies was called to a disturbance in a home in rural Oelwein on Tuesday just after 1 p.m.

There, they found 39-year-old James Wright of Oelwein had hit 35-year-old Robert Elliot of Oelwein in the face with a baseball bat.

Elliot was taken to Mercy Hospital Oelwein and treated for injuries and was later transferred to University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Wright was charged with willful injury as well as violation of a no-contact order and a probation violation warrant.

34-year-old Flora Epley was also arrested on the scene and charged with simple assault after she assaulted a minor female in front of deputies.

Both Wright and Epley were taken to the Fayette County Jail and will appear before a magistrate.
