NTSB releases details about deadly medical helicopter crash

CERRO GORDO COUNTY (KWWL) - Federal investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have released details surrounding a medical helicopter crash near Clear Lake in January 2013 that left three people dead.

According to the report, the pilot and two medical crew members died during a flight from Mercy Medical Center in Mason City to the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.

The report states icy conditions may have played a role in the helicopter crash.

According to federal investigators, the helicopter was equipped with heated pilot and static ports, but the rotor blades were not equipped with ice protection.
