ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (AP) -

Another police shooting took place in St. Louis Co., MO early Wednesday morning.

According to NBC News, one person was shot just before 1 a.m. Wednesday, not far from where the protests have been erupting in Ferguson.

Police say they responded to a report of four masked men carrying shotguns in the area. The caller said the suspects had fired shots.

When police arrived on scene, they saw the men running; one turned around and pointed a handgun at police. An officer fired at least once at the suspect, wounding him. NBC News reports he was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

About an hour prior to this incident, a woman was shot in an apparent drive-by shooting. According to NBC News, four or five men were involved in the shooting and fled in a car, about a mile away from where protests have taken place in Ferguson for the third night in a row.

It is unclear at this time if either incident is related to the Ferguson protests.
