Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall dies at 89

Actress Lauren Bacall died from a stroke at a New York City Hospital on Tuesday morning; she was 89 years old.

Bacall was born Betty Joan Perske in New York City on September 16, 1924.

Bacall is known for her famous line "you know how to whistle now don't you Steve. You just put your lips together and blow" in the 1944 movie To Have and Have Not with Humphrey Bogart.

Bacall married Bogart in 1945, eventually collaborating on three more movies together, The Big Sleep, Dark Passage, and Key Largo before he died in 1957.

She's remembered for her sultry looks and smoky voice; she starred in more than 30 films in her career that spanned more than 60 years.

She was the winner of two Tony awards and a Golden Globe; she was nominated for an Academy Award in 1997 and won an Honorary Oscar in 2009.
