Don Bosco looking for a repeat

Posted: Updated:
GILBERTVILLE (KWWL) -

A reloading effort is underway in Gilbertville. The Don Bosco football team opened fall practice on Monday hoping to build a squad that can capture a second straight 8-man state championship.

The effort, however, will be anything but easy with some massive graduation losses. Leading rusher and passer Jake Hogan, leading receiver Travis, and leading tackler Mitchell Corkery have all moved on.

Taking over at signal caller is senior Mason Svoboda who wants more than anything to go back to back. However, he knows a tough road lies ahead.

"It was probably the greatest feeling ever," said Svoboda, "It's going to be hard coming back from that, because everyone has a target on you."

Head coach Colby Yoder says he has confidence in this squad, but also understands there are some unknowns with this team.

"I think there's going to be a lot of people out there that haven't seen a lot of these guys that are going to step on the field," said Yoder, "It should be a lot of fun too. The kids are working hard, did a lot of things in the off season, and that's all we can ask."

Don Bosco opens their 2014 campaign at home against Midland on August 29.
