WATERLOO (KWWL) -

People gathered at Riverview Recreation Area Saturday in Waterloo to remember 20-year-old Kate Leekley. Leekley was killed by a drunk driver last year.

Friends and family held a memorial ride Saturday in Leekley's honor. People who knew her say pink was Leekley's favorite color, so ,any of the riders wore pink T-shirts with her picture on the front during the ride. The back of the T-shirts said, "This precious girl was taken by a drunk driver. Do not drink and drive."

Leekley's mother, Jennifer Tronca, said she hopes people take away a special, important message.

"Drinking and driving is not just about you. It affects so many people; families, friends, that individual themselves, their future. Everything," Tronca said.

Riders held a silent auction, contests and bake sale after the ride. All proceeds will be split between Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and a charity dealing with horses, as Leekley used to own a horse. Family and friends are still determining to which charity half of the proceeds will go.
