OELWEIN (KWWL) - Oelwein Police are investigating how 61 pounds of marijuana -- a street value of $90,000 -- made it onto a rail car.

Police were called to Transco Railway Products, 300 7th Ave. NW in Oelwein, around 8 a.m. after workers taking a car in for repair noticed bundles of marijuana hidden on the car.

Police Chief Jeremy Logan says investigators discovered 45 packages of marijuana concealed in the wall of the rail car.

Jake Steil, Division Manager of Transco, says they want to return to normal routine and would not do an on-camera interview with KWWL.

Investigators are trying to determine where the rail car left from and where it was headed, but they do not believe Oelwein was the final destination.

Transco has been a railroad repair facility in Oelwein since 1969 and they say they've never found drugs on a rail car.

Oelwein Police will get a court order to destroy the marijuana once the investigation is complete.
