WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is celebrating a successful growing season with a garden party on Aug. 14.

It will go from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the food bank's on-site community garden in Waterloo.

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank and Center for Energy and Environmental Education partnered this spring to begin a community garden.

The Food Bank provided the land while CEEE organized the garden.

“Eating nutritiously is often expensive and this is a good way for us to get nutritious food to people in need, said Barbara Prather, Executive Director.

“It has been a dream of ours for a long time and to see it come to reality is really wonderful.”

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank provides food and grocery products, to about 200 nonprofit organizations and programs who assist the hungry. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 6 million pounds of food within a 16-county service area.
