Free backpacks, school supplies to kids affected by cancer

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) - There's some back-to-school help for some Cedar Rapids families who have been affected by cancer.

The Hall-Perrine Cancer Center at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids is giving away free backpacks stuffed full of supplies to families.

Each kid got everything off their school supply list, and they even got to pick their backpack designs.

It's to help families who currently have a member receiving cancer treatment.

"I have a fixed income and it's a really small budget to live off of, so this really helped out," said Brandy Miller, who used to have cancer.

A total of 33 kids are getting these backpacks.

The money comes from the Aiming for a Cure Foundation.
