Police: Veteran's death in Waterloo suspicious, not yet homicide

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - The death of a Vietnam veteran from Waterloo who died after family members say he was beaten and left for dead is still not being ruled as a homicide.

Waterloo Police Lt. Michael McNamee said police are still waiting to hear from the state crime lab on how 69 year-old Dennis Washburn died.

He said Washburn's death is still classified as suspicious, but they haven't ruled it a homicide because they don't have enough evidence to do so.

Family members believe Washburn, a veteran, was beaten up and left for dead early in the morning on Memorial Day.

McNamee said police still have not received any tips.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or leave an anonymous tip with Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers: 855-300-TIPS (8477)
