Hawkeye football hosts annual media day

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

When you look at this Iowa football team, you've got one of the most experienced offensive backfields coming back in the Big Ten. They don't play Michigan, Michigan State or Ohio State and all those things combined can lead to some big things.

From four wins in 2012 to eight last season, the Hawkeyes are looking to climb even higher.

Having a running back corps of Mark Weisman, Damon Bullock, Jordan Canzeri and LeShun Daniels that can confidently go four deep is a big deal.

"We have a lot of them at running back. it's a good thing, good healthy competition that's all making us better players."

Jake Rudock returns for his second season starting at signal caller. Rudock threw for over 2,300 yards and 18 touchdowns a year ago, and he expects more options now with more experience.

"There's a bunch of plays that not everyone sees that every offense has, and maybe we'll bring out more. The season will tell."

But, literally, the biggest returnee has to be Brandon Scherff, the offensive lineman who chose to forego a guaranteed NFL career to accomplish something he's yet to do.

"I want to win that Big Ten Championship, cause we want to go somewhere we haven't been in a long time, and become a better player, bring the younger guys up with us," Scherff said.
