UI tuition give-away revamped

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) - With approval from the Johnson County Attorney and the Iowa Attorney General's Office, the University of Iowa Athletics Department has revamped their tuition give-away program.

In July, the University of Iowa announced that any student who bought season tickets for the 2014 football season would be eligible to win free tuition for a year. A short time later, that program was put on hold after legal questions were raised.

On Monday, the university announced that five students will now be selected from those who buy a six-game or seven-game student season ticket package or notify the athletics department that they want to be entered into the drawing. The five winners will each receive $8,000 to be applied against their tuition and/or educational expenses for the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters at the UI.

Students have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday to buy their season tickets or notify the UI Athletics Department via email, at gohawks@hawkeyesports.com, of their interest in being entered in the drawing.

To enter the drawing without buying a season ticket, you can also give your name, email address and telephone number to the UI Athletics Ticket Office by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Students who bought season football tickets between the time the original program was announced and its suspension, and would like a refund, should send an email to gohawks@hawkeyesports.com by 5 p.m. Friday.
