WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Police have arrested a man while investigating a Saturday morning murder in Waterloo.

Roderick Earl Ward, Jr., 26, was arrested by Waterloo Police and charged with possessing a firearm as a felon.

Police arrested Ward while investigating the shooting death of 27-year-old Gary Lee Wilson.

Wilson was found on the ground near 241 Jackson St. in Waterloo early Saturday.

Ward has not been charged in direct connection with Wilson's death, according to Lt. Michael McNamee of Waterloo Police.

Ward is being held on $100,000 bond.

Police officials believe Wilson was shot by a shotgun. Police say they have recovered the apparent weapon, which they believe was fired multiple times.

Wilson was pronounced dead at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

Authorities think the shooting began with an argument, but they're not sure what that involved.

The investigation is ongoing.

According to Waterloo Director of Safety Services Dan Trelka, it is technically the first homicide in Waterloo this year. The suspicious death of Dennis Washburn may still be ruled Waterloo's first homicide.
