Gas prices at four-year low

Posted: Updated:
Good news for drivers.  Gas prices are the lowest they've been at the start of August in four years.

According to the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded dropped to $3.49.  That's a 15-cent drop from July 4, a holiday that typically sees high demand.

It's even cheaper to fill the gas tank in Iowa with the average price about a dime cheaper than the national average at $3.41.

"Beginning the month with the lowest pump prices since 2010 is a nice way to start August, but it's unlikely that we'll see gasoline production from coast to coast running as high in August as we'd seen during July," said Gas Buddy's Senior Petroleum Analyst Gregg Laskoski.

"In recent years, we've seen August refinery utilization slip a bit below July numbers and if that happens we may see prices increase especially in areas where consumers are flocking to enjoy the remainder of the summer driving season," he added.
