Iowa City police investigate armed robbery at Kum and Go

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa City Police are investigating an early-morning armed robbery.

It happened at the Kum and Go on Mormon Trek Blvd. around 3:30 a.m. on Monday.

A store clerk said one person came into the gas station while the other stood outside. The person who entered showed a handgun and pointed it at the clerk. as he demanded money.

Police say the suspect jumped over the counter and took money from the register while holding the gun on the employee. He took an undisclosed amount of money and then both men ran.

No one was hurt in the robbery.

The suspects are described as follows: 

• Suspect #1 (who entered the store) was a black male approximately 5'9" - 5'11", 160-170 lbs., wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, tan work boots, and dark long pants with his face covered with a white mask.

• Suspect #2 (who served as the lookout) was described as a black male, approximately 5'9" - 5'11", 150-170 lbs., wearing dark colored pants, dark colored shoes with white soles, a dark colored sweatshirt, and covering his head with a red mask.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering up to a $1000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477).
