6-time Twins all-star Joe Mauer rehabs in Cedar Rapids

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Minnesota Twins star catcher Joe Mauer is coming to Cedar Rapids.

The 6-time all-star catcher will go through work-outs on Monday, and if all goes well, Mauer will make a rehab start with the Kernels on Tuesday night.

He's expected to spend time at first base and designated hitter.

Joe Mauer's older brother, Jake Mauer, is currently Cedar Rapids' manager. The two have worked together before, when Joe had a rehab assignment in Class A Fort Myers in 2011 -- the team Jake was managing at the time.

Mauer has been out since straining an oblique in a game in early July.

Twins opening day starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco will also join the Kernels for a pair of rehab starts. Nolasco is set to pitch on Tuesday and Sunday.
