Red Cross facing late-summer blood shortage

Posted: Updated:

The American Red Cross has an urgent need for more blood donations before Labor Day.

All blood types are needed, but blood from types O-negative, B-negative and A-negative are in an especially short supply.

Red Cross officials say blood donations usually decline in the summer, but the need does not decrease. To encourage late-season donations, those that give blood over the Labor Day weekend, between Aug. 30 and Sept. 1, will receive a free mason jar tumbler.

There are dozens of blood drives in the KWWL viewing area in the next few weeks. To find one near you, visit
