Springville man accused of sexual abuse arrested in Arkansas

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Springville man accused of sexual abuse in Iowa has been arrested in Arkansas.

Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner says his office received information in April that 24-year-old Christopher Stephens of Springville was having sexual contact with a teenage girl between March and April of this year.

Gardner says that, as the three-month investigation was wrapping up, Stephens changed his phone number and moved from Springville without informing investigators.

After the Linn County Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Stephens for third-degree sexual abuse, investigators learned that Stephens had left the state and moved to Arkansas.

Stephens was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Service on Thursday in Kensett, Arkansas.

He is being held in the Searcy County (Arkansas) Jail awaiting extradition back to Iowa.
