Award-winning city rummage sale returns for 8th year

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Iowa City's award-winning annual waste reduction and reuse event is back again, for the eighth year.

Rummage in the Ramp, created to help reduce the number of materials that end up in the Landfill each summer, especially after tenants move out of apartments.

The annual event allows owners to donate items to the sale, which are then sold at bargain prices, typically $1 to $20, depending on the item.

Rummage in the Ramp is set to kick off Friday July 25, but there's still time to donate and buy through August 3.

All the money raised from the sale are divided among local nonprofits that help staff the 10-day mega-reuse event.

Bargain shoppers and people looking to furnish their homes or apartments can find everything from furniture and beds to clothing, books, pots, pans, dishes, exercise equipment, electronics and other household goods, including many unique, one-of-a-kind or hard-to-find items.

Tenants moving out of apartments who have still-usable household items they no longer need or want are encouraged to drop off donations to the sale, which takes place on the ground floor of the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp across from City Hall and adjacent to the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center parking area.

Donation and sale hours continue through this week, and end at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3. The remaining schedule is as follows:

Monday, July 28 through Friday, Aug. 1: noon to 8 p.m. daily

Saturday, Aug. 2: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Coupons valid 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)

Sunday, Aug. 3: noon to 8 p.m. (Coupons valid noon to 8 p.m.)
