Second-ranked Van Meter rallied past Iowa City Regina 2-1 Monday night at Principal Park in the final Class 2A quarterfinal-round game.

The third-seeded Bulldogs (32-2) will meet two-time defending state champion Beckman Catholic in the semifinals Thursday night. Sixth-seeded Regina ends its season at 26-17.

Iowa City Regina took a 1-0 lead in the third on a walk, an error, a single by Payton Raso and an RBI single by Riley Dixon. The Bulldogs escaped further damage by turning a nifty 5-2-6 double play to end the inning.

Van Meter scored two runs in the bottom of the third on three hits and one error for a 2-1 lead. Zach Forret and Brandon Brittain had RBI singles for the Bulldogs.

Brittain (8-0) struck out the side in the seventh inning. He fanned nine and scattered four hits in the win.

Jake Brinkman (6-3) took the loss. He struck out six and allowed five hits.
