A former Iowa City man has been sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for meth distribution crimes.

Luis Chavez Preciado, 28, was sentenced to 151 months for conspiracy to distribute at least 500 grams of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine and 50 grams of actual meth.

Prosecutors said he worked with others to sell meth in 2013 around the Iowa City and Muscatine areas. Authorities said he and his co-defendant, Nasra Kury, sold meth to an undercover officer seven times.

While executing a search warrant, officers found more than 1000 grams of meth, digital scales, a shotgun and ammunition in Preciado's home.

Preciado was also ordered to serve five years supervised release after his sentence, and pay $100 into the Crime Victims Fund.
