Former MLBer Jeff Clement to help coach Hawkeye baseball team

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Former Major League Baseball player Jeff Clement will be joining the University of Iowa baseball's team as a volunteer coach.

Clement was a No. 3 overall pick in the 2005 MLB Draft. He played three seasons at the University of Southern California before playing a total of four seasons in the majors with the Seattle Mariners and Pittsburgh Pirates, as a catcher and first baseman.

He retired in 2014. He is a native to Iowa, growing up in Marshalltown.

University of Iowa baseball's coach said he is very excited to have Jeff join the team, and feels he will do a great job working with Iowa's catchers and hitters.
