WATERLOO (KWWL) -

An eastern Iowa Republican group called a recent Facebook post by a local Democratic group on a social media site "offensive," and the Democratic group apologized this week.

Scott Adkins, chairman of the Black Hawk County Republicans, said his group was made aware this week of a July 15 post to the Black Hawk County Democrats page on Facebook with commentary linking former President Ronald Reagan to white supremacy.

The commentary, added by the page, read, "One was a white supremacist. The other isn't."

The post was later taken down from the Black Hawk County Democrats page.

A phone number listed on the Facebook page was disconnected, but BHC Democratic party chair Pat Sass apologized for the post, calling it unacceptable, according to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier as well as the Des Moines Register. Sass placed blame on a "volunteer social media coordinator."

Adkins called the post "offensive and extremely disrespectful to the Reagan family," adding, "It's unfortunate that our counterparts at the Democrat (sic) Party are now taking this type of derogatory attack to the grave of one of the greatest presidents in American history."
