UNI and ISU men's basketball win national academic honor

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Last December, the Iowa State and University of Northern Iowa men's basketball teams put on a show at the Wells Fargo Arena in a game that the Cyclones won in overtime.

Today both UNI and ISU were honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches with team academic excellence awards.

The award is given to teams with a cumulative grade point better than a 3.0. And the Panthers and Cyclones are two of only 30 NCAA Division 1 teams on the list.

The UNI men's basketball team compiled a 3.06 cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the 2013-14 academic year.

The Cyclones were just one of nine teams that earned the award and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
