7-vehicle crash shuts down I-380 on Wednesday

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - A seven-vehicle accident led to I-380 being shut down for a period of time Wednesday morning.

Cedar Rapids police were originally called to a report of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-380 just before 7 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers closed I-380 southbound after finding multiple vehicles involved in a crash in the southbound lanes of I-380 near Diagonal Drive.

Seven vehicles were involved in the accident and two people were transported to the hospital, but are expected to survive.

One of the people brought to the hospital was the driver who was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of I-380. He has been identified as a man in his 70's. Officers are investigating the possibility of a medical condition.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the accident remains under investigation.

The right lane of I-380 southbound reopened at 7:52 a.m., and all southbound lanes reopened at 8:14 a.m.
