The Caped Crusader takes a break from protecting Gotham City to visit fans in Cedar Rapids Wednesday.

In celebration of Batman's 75th anniversary, Barnes and Noble in Cedar Rapids is hosting Batman Day all day Wednesday.

Activities will include storytime, activities and a "special surprise" for children at 11 a.m.

From 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday night, one of the few Batmobiles manufactured for the 1960s TV series -- signed by both Adam West and Burt Ward -- will visit the bookstore.

At 7 p.m., a celebration of Batman and costume contest for all ages will occur.

All activities are free and open to the public.

Batman first appeared in DC Comics #27 on this date in 1939 and went on to become one of the most popular superheroes in comic history.
