ARLINGTON (KWWL) -

A spokesman from the American Red Cross tells KWWL this weekend's project to install smoke alarms in Arlington was a success.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross teamed up with the Arlington Fire Department and canvassed the entire town to make sure all homes had working smoke alarms.

"It was clear to the group that our goal to leave the community better prepared and more resilient was achieved," said Brandon Holstrom from the American Red Cross. According to a press release, out of 156 homes canvassed in Arlington, 43 smoke alarms were installed and 28 batteries were replaced.

More than 30 smoke alarms were left at the Arlington Fire Department and firefighters say they'll continue to install alarms as requests come in from the community.
