CORALVILLE (KWWL) - A family of three are all facing charges after a huge fight involving 15 people.

The family members allegedly punched one officer in the face and kicked one in the knee.

Police say the fight occurred in the Country Court Apartments on 5th Street in Coralville just after midnight, Monday.

"Well, I just heard like everybody fighting on the porch because they was on the porch just chilling or whatever," said Neakia Hargons who has lived in the complex for four years. "Then they start arguing, fight ended up breaking out or whatever and then next thing I know after a while police had came."

Hargons says she saw the whole brawl from right outside her window.

Coralville Police tell us 26-year-old Shaneka Alexander refused to follow police orders, began resisting arrest, kicking an officer while being handcuffed so bad, she to be taken to the hospital.

But Alexander didn't act alone, her 50-year-old mother, Cherita Smith assaulted several officers who were trying to arrest her Alexander. Even her father James Alexander pitched in, fighting back.

James Alexander and Smith are both charged with assault on a peace officer.

Shaneka Alexander faces an assault on a peace officer causing bodily injury.

Coralville Police chief Chief Barry Bedford says there could be more charges.

"We normally don't have no problems, we normally get along with each other... it's nice," said Hargons.

Chief Bedford says they've gotten 60 calls over the last year in that same apartment complex.

He says that number includes several assaults and other altercations.

"We're looking at that right now and we're going to try and address some of those concerns with the property owners and see what we can do to partner with them to minimize those types of things in the future," said Bedford.
