IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

A Kentucky senator will stump for an Iowa woman's congressional campaign in Iowa City next month.

Sen. Rand Paul, a Republican representing Kentucky, will headline an Iowa City fundraiser for Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who is vying to represent Iowa's second congressional district.

Paul will headline the event at The University Club beginning at noon Aug. 5. Light refreshments will be served.

"It is an honor to have Senator Rand Paul join our campaign for an event during his visit to Iowa," Miller-Meeks said in a statement scheduled to be released by her campaign Tuesday.

Miller-Meeks resigned as director of the Iowa Department of Public Health in January to pursue her third bid for Congress.

It is her third attempt to unseat incumbent Democrat Dave Loebsack in the second district, which includes Iowa City, Tipton and Ottumwa.
