Waterloo Police Dept. recruiting volunteer officers

Waterloo area residents are being encouraged to apply to be volunteer police officers.   

The volunteers will have the opportunity to become reserve officers with the Waterloo Police Department if they are accepted.   

Recruit reserve officers will receive more than 200 hours of local training and more than 160 hours of field training to meet Iowa standards.   

Applicants must be at least 21, be a resident of Black Hawk County, hold a high school diploma and have a valid driver's license.

Informational meetings have been scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Police Department Training Center at 349 North Elk Run Road. Those interested in applying are urged to attend one of these sessions.

Any person who meets the qualifications is welcome to apply.

To do so, a letter of Interest and Resume should be sent to Lt. Al Carrier (Reserve Unit Liaison) at the Waterloo Police Department, 715 Mulberry Street, Waterloo, Iowa, 50703, no later than Aug. 29 by 5 p.m.
